In spite of the financial constraints of our member farmers, KTE is involved in the following activities for the welfare of the community:
| KTE is actively involved in the building and maintenance of Phidim-Ranitar / Lungrupa (8 km) motor able road and (7 km) trek road. It is involved in bridge building activities at the Namdu River . The premium received from Transfair International Germany and a donation coordinated by Dr. Martin Kunz (transfair) was used for this purpose. |

Thirteen living quarters have already been built for the farmers of the garden. A food subsidy program is provided to the staff and farmers. Medical facilities are provided for the farmers of the garden and factory. Special economic support is provided to the women farmers during the maternity period. Financial support is also provided for ritual functions - birth and death of farmer's family and for other local functions which have immense social significance.
ROAD BUILDING:
KTE is actively involved in the building and maintenance of an 8kms motorable road between Phidim-Ranitar / Lungrupa. It was involved in bridge building activities at the Namdu River. The premium received from Transfair International, Germany and a donation coordinated by Dr. Martin Kunz (Transfair) was used for this purpose. SinAss Tea Handels, Germany had supported to maintain the 'green road' that links the highway to the factory.
FARMERS CO-OP SHOP
KTE is managing a food subsidy program for the farmers in the field and the processing units. Major foods - rice, cooking oil , salt and washing soap are the major items. Clothes and other necessary items will also be arranged gradually at subsidized rate. Beside the medical facilities to the farmers, special economic support is also provided to the women farmers during the maternity period. Financial support is also provided for ritual functions - birth and death in a farmer's family and for other local functions, which have immense social significance.
COW BANK PROJECT:
To generate extra income for the needy families and to maintain soil fertility, KTE has initiated a COW BANK PROJECT with support from the Van Rumpt Foundation – Netherlands, Rotarian from the Netherlands, International Rotary Foundation. Dr. Piet Joosten has coordinated and monitored all the activities. In the first phase, KTE provided 36 high yielding cows and a bull in 2004. The program was rewarding to the farmers as they received extra income by selling milk and the garden received the FYM to maintain sustainable soil fertility. In the second phase,65 calves were provided to the extension area. Now 166 families are benefited from the project as the first female calf is given to the next needy farmer.

• SCHOOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Scholarships are provided to all children of the farmers to study in the local English Boarding School and the Community School as secondary and primary education is compulsory in KTE. Nepali Bazaro, a fair trade organization in Japan has been supporting KTE not only to popularize its product but also supporting in its social activities – scholarship program with the support from the “One Coin Concert staff” of Kanagawa Sogou High School, Yokohoma, Japan. Besides with the support from NEPALI BAZARO, KTE is providing scholarship for higher education to four girls and one boy.
